Carter III and Lil Wayne hate

26 06 2008

Strangely enough - I like The Carter III.

Strange because when Carter II came out a few years ago and this chick copped it for me as a Christmas gift I vomited a little in the back of my throat and not so politely returned the gift to her to be replaced by a more palatable Bun B ‘Trill.’

Thing is, between now and then Wayne has grown on me. So of course I downloaded his joint from the boards. I don’t think he’s the best rapper alive but he is witty and clever and makes pretty good beat selection. He actually does have some content in his music on occasion as I realized years ago with his first disc when my little bro would bump his shit. I was just never into the whole Cash Money era and wrote those fools off like most cats did.

Thing is he has some decent joints in his catalog and on this album (ok, in the interest of full disclosure - I still haven’t listened to any of his albums all the way through except for the Carter III but the mf’er has nuff joints out now and I ain’t spendin’ my hard earned on a Lil Wayne album.)

Whats interesting to me is all of the hate this cat gets for doing what he does and doing it pretty decently. He is better than Jeezy and A LOT of other rappers out. He had a ridiculous verse on OutKast’s ‘Hollywood Divorce.’ And he has dropped other hot verses in his time. In fact, the reason he has all of this buzz etc. is because over the last 3-year period he has dropped alot of material and a lot of stand-out verses.

I can’t say that I’m a fan of Wayne’s as its not as though I have been checking for his albums. But can someone explain to me all of the hate for this dude? Sure’s he’s a syrup head upstart, but he doesn’t strike me as any less of talented rapper than some of the guys most of you have listed as dope MC’s.

Is this just an issue of hating on a successful rapper finally hitting his stride? Did he eat your kitten or some shit? Cuz muthafucka’s really have a lot of venom for this dude like he committed a personal offense against them.

The only rapper deserving of all of that: Silkk the Shocker

R. Kelly

26 06 2008

I think they are going after Kelly for the wrong thing. They could get him for soliciting a prostitute, but pedophilia is a bit different. It was consensual and she was clearly paid for her service.

People will probably disagree with alot of what I’m saying but historically, may people on here have grandparents who were married young or who were pregnant in their early teens. The shit has finally come back around because nowadays girls are still getting pregnant at 14, 15, 16. There are girls in middle school sucking dicks, and fucking, they are just fast ass kids and really a byproduct of our current society. Everyone on this board probably knows at least three chicks that were fooling with college dudes and shitting on dudes their age trying to get at them.

In watching the video you see that she is a trained professional and she is not acting uncomfortable or intimidated in the least. R. Kelly is not forcing her to do any of the stuff she subjects herself to. While we all know its R. Kelly having sex with an underage chick, I would have a much stronger issue if he had been aggressive, abusive or intimidating towards her.

But he wasn’t.

He paid a prostitute to perform and she did, and there are plenty of underage prostitutes that no one gives a shit about because they weren’t seen on tape fucking R. Kelly.

In fact, no one really cares about the girl, people just care because it is him.

Personally, I don’t like to see black people get hemmed up and have to go to jail, cuz prosecutors love making examples out of brothers, especially successful ones (Mike Vick) but Kellz is gonna have to ride for this one. I just hope the people don’t label him as a pedophile because they will kill him in prison. He needs to do his time for this and move the fuck on.

This is not necessarily about defending R. Kelly or claiming him to be a victim or anything. I think that most stuff people bring upon themselves and most times people are not willing to take responsibility for their actions.

I also think that if you are going to go after someone, go after them for the right reason, the flip side to that is that I don’t like seeing black people hemmed up despite most shit being brought upon themselves, from speeding tickets and dope cases to TI’s nonsense. Its weird but its like I want them to understand they fucked up and pay a penalty but I don’t want someone’s life ruined behind a foolish decision. (hahah the racist in me only applies this to black people though cuz we have always been hamstring by “the system”)

UPDATE
It is wild that this dude beat that case. Wow, that was something unexpected.

Its not he was the police caught on tape whipping a black guys ass or something, I mean they just do that to keep the peace.  He’s nobody as important as a police officer, he’s just a celebrated R&B singer who likes sexing underage girls.

Who would’a thunk it?

What’s the boldest thing a chick w/ a man has done when with you?

15 04 2008

A rip from the ASR forums but worth blogging about no doubt -

As told by Mecca:

Not mine but sad & funny

A female who was a friend but I never hit revealed to me one of the most foulest things I heard a female do. She is married to a thug. Dude kept getting locked up like every season. He would serve a short bid then get back to hustling. She admitted to having fear of him but loved him like crazy. They had three kids together. One year she gets fed up with him going to jail and leaving her and the kids alone. And this time her hubby was locked longer than usual so she eventually met her a “friend”. She let him know that when her husband gets out everything has to stop. She admitted to never having sex with him in her husbands house but that still doesn’t make up for what she does later. Since her husband was getting detained so long in jail she didn’t know when exactly he would get out. One day he calls and tells her that he may be out on Monday (it was a Friday when he called). He promises her that he will do right from now on and not go back to jail and to be with the family. She calls her friend to tell him times up. Her friend begs her for one last time out that night. So she sends the kids to a friend and get dressed and go out for drinks with her friend and they have sex at his place. She tells him it’s been fun but she has to go. She goes home to get cleaned up before she goes back to get the kids when sitting in her living room is her husband .

Turns out he was able to get out a few hours after he called. She is scared shitless because he immediately starts to grill her. He ask her where she been, why she dressed like that, where the kids, has she been drinking, etc. She starts crying because she is scared. But she was able to lie and say she was crying because she was happy to see him but he is acting like that. He then starts kissing her and tells her he missed her and wants to be with her and it’s been too long. He wants to fuck her right then and there. So she tells him she has to use the bathroom. When she sits on the toilet she felt the first guys nut coming out of her. Her husband is in the bed yelling at her to hurry the fuck up. She knew if she took a shower or turn him down it would have made him more suspicious and he was known to snap. So she said she tried to clean herself up as much as possible and went and and slept with her husband . Now here is the fucked up part. She told me that when her husband started fucking her, he told her how good her pussy felt cuz it was so wet. She told him it was because she missed him so much but it was really because of the first guy’s nut . Her husband then apologized for putting her and the kids through so much and told her how much he loved her and he cried while they had sex.

So what has happened to you or what have you heard of happening?

Creative genius or not?

nasinrepose.jpg
With Black history month over, I thought it would be good to get your feedback on Nas’s new album. It was supposed to be released in February, but has been pushed back again.
No doubt Nas is courting controversy, even his creative genius can’t deny that. Even though he is one of the best rappers of all time this new album title has got me thinking. First of all, how come there seemed to be more people/rappers upset when Nas came out with Hip Hop is Dead? People were up in arms. For some reason this Ni99a album title is creating a subtle quiet storm, and it is mostly with people our parents age. Ni99a album vs Hip Hop is Dead which one gets you more offended?
Do you think that Nas’s argument about embracing the word as way of empowerment and self-affirmation is legit? Or do you think that he has paved the way for the Don Imus’s of the world to be out there and say “nappy headed ni99ers” and it is cool cuz hey Nas has that as an album title.
What you think?

IS OBAMA THE VOICE OF THE HIP-HOP GENERATION?

22 02 2008

“My raps ignite the people like Obama.”

-Common (Finding Forever)

With Obamamania growing by the minute, I thought it would be interesting to do a post about him and his relevance to hip-hop. There is no doubt that he is literally the dark horse blazing up the scene. To be honest, I don’t think that people really thought that he would have made it this far. To their surprise he has…what is the appeal?

Can Obama be the voice for the hip-hop generation? After thinking about it I have come to the conclusion that yes he is. When you think about it at the end of the day Obama embodies all that there is to hip hop. He is in a nutshell the hip-hop American dream. Here are my top 4 reasons for saying this:

  1. Obama is a hustler. I mean who else can get people to give him $6 million dollars over a 24 hour period. Who else can come out of relative obscurity and create such a sensation that you have to take notice. He has got white people haning onto his words like it is crack…people are tuning into CNN just for an Obama fix.
  2. Obama can rock the mic and he has the verbage to back it up. Listen to the way the man speaks. There is a lyricism in his voice. His speeches inspire people. There is a whole generation of people our age who have become mobilized by his words that they want to put into action.
  3. Obama has got that swagger. His presence alone tells you that he is not one to mess with. He is strong. He is not backing down and for that people are scared because he has got people believing that he can be president.
  4. Obama is connected to the community. Yeah he went to Harvard, and yeah he is a lawyer but how many people you know go back to the community and work in the community as a civil rights lawyer? Because of this he has become very aware of the issues that the hip-hop generation faces. The majority of politicians don’t understand the struggles of the hip-hop community, and therefore they rarely address them. His policies indicate that he is in tune: health care for everyone, education reform, prison reform and sentencing reform, the war in Iraq, affordable college, jobs programs, social welfare…it is clear he has a pulse on the issues and wants to really evoke change. Like the true essence of hip-hop Obama is about community empowerment.

“I can do for you what Martin did for the people”…it is true. On his quest to upgrade America, Obama will be taking all of us in the hip-hop generation along for the ride.

Not too long ago Obama was discussing hip-hop and the relevance of hip-hop and he said that although hip-hop does a good job at shining the realities of America, it is time hip-hop embraces the true essence of it’s purpose and shine light on the possibilities of what can become. Maybe a Black President is just one of those things.

What do you think?

THE GREATEST LOSS IN HIP-HOP IS?

27 01 2008

In a an effort to keep the blog alive, here is a post that BenHa wanted to get out and get your thoughts on:

Is the DOC losing his voice the greatest loss Hip-Hop has ever experienced? His one and only LP No One Can Do it Better stands as a testament to the strength and power that poured from his vocal cords. His verse on NWA’s The Final Episode is arguably the best, and his lyricism would go on to fuel the majority of The Chronic and 2001. He served as a mentor to Snoop and a motivator for Dr. Dre, but with only one album to his name it hurts to think what else he could have accomplished.

Who or what do you think is the greatest loss in hip-hop?

B-Ha Update

2 01 2008

Sup good people, this is Ben’s friend Yuri in Houston stopping through to relay an ambiguous message to the masses.

Ben is fine, just dealing with some tricked up issues overseas.  I will try to relay whatever message he wants delivered as they come, the only thing he has really expressed is that he wants all of his peeps to continue contributing to the blog (posting articles, links, pics, video, etc.) while he is out of pocket for a bit.

I will post some of the stuff he had as drafts for cats that are interesting in dropping their opinions and in general try to hold it down until he is once again able to do so.

. . . we now return you to the daily routine that is your life . . .

(and just so I’m not some faceless cyber assbloggernaut — here)
